  • iPhone 4 Cases

Just when iPhone owners though the market for iPhone cases had it all, the iPhone 4 brought on a new range of iPhone 4 cases: bumpers.

A new style of iPhone 4 case is called a bumper. A Bumper is like a skin, yet it protects mostly the sides, or edges, of your iPhone, leaving the front and back unprotected. Bumpers are typically rubber on the inside and have a plastic outside, and have metallic buttons for the volume controls and sleep/wake button.

So why would you want a bumper? Apple came up with the idea of the bumper to address an issue that caused the iPhone signal to drop significantly when people held the iPhone’s outer metallic ring in a certain way; the bumper insulates your hand from the metallic ring and seems to have solved the signal issue.

A bumper is also  a fun and simple way to personalize your iPhone 4 and is available in a range of colors, including two tone, and available in a range of textures. While bumpers don’t protect the back of your iPhone, a bumper does raise the back of your iPhone enough to reduce scratches that occur when keeping it on a table or other surface.

    iPhone Features

iPhones are popular because they’re easy to understand and easy to use. Ask a typical iPhone owner if they have ever read the manual for their iPhone; most will say that they were not aware that their iPhone even had a manual!

iPhone features are broad and cover both hardware and software. The iPhone’s hardware offers a range of capabilities – starting with its display. The display serves two purposes – it displays information and is the way you interact with the phone by touching the display.

The screen is made using scratch-resistant glass, yet many people prefer to put a screen protector on their iPhone to reduce smudging. The screen’s display resolution varies between 320×480 and 640×960 depending on the model.

You interact with your iPhone by touching the screen with one or more fingers; the iPhone detects your touches through multi-touch sensing. The display also incorporates a proximity sensor, accelerometer, and the iPhone 4 introduced a gyroscopic sensor.

Your iPhone also includes a camera that ranges between 2 megapixels and 5 megapixels, based on the model. The iPhone 4 introduced a camera on the front of the phone to support Face Time, a video chat application.

The iPhone also includes a multi-purpose connector port at the bottom of the iPhone. The connector allows your iPhone to be charged, and also makes it possible to use with docking stations that include speakers and other functions. The iPhone’s headphone connector allows you to control volume, play or pause music, and answer and end phone calls if used with the supplied, or compatible, headphones.

    iPhone Price Drop

iPhone prices fell during the first months of 2011 after rumors that a new iPhone, the iPhone 5, might become available during the near future. Of course, Apple has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of the iPhone 5, yet prices for existing iPhones fell.

Some retailers are offering a 16Gb iPhone 4 for $169 and the 35Gb model at $269 and further discounts could reduce the price of the 16Gb model to just $69. Some stores are also offering iPhone 4 with a two year contract for $150 for the 16 Gb model and $250 for the 32Gb model.

iPhone 3Gs price drops are happening too – you can get an iPhone 3Gs for just $20 with a two year contract in some places. Wireless carriers like AT&T are offering a discount of about $30 on iPhone 4; however, all carriers are not offering a discount, so check while you shop around.

The price drops come ahead of anticipation that the new iPhone 5 could be released as early as September, although some say it could be released in time for the holiday season. Either way, consumers win with some fantastic savings on iPhones – or can you wait until the iPhone 5 becomes available?

    iPhone 3Gs Cases

The millions of iPhones in use around the world today have made it feasible for case manufacturers to create a range of iPhone 3Gs cases. You’ll find hundreds of styles and variations available on the market. It’s best to shop around online before heading out to your local dealer, to have an awareness of prices. There are many different types of cases to choose from:

    • Skin
    • Snap on case
    • Impact case
    • Holster
    • Wallet
    • Game grip

A skin is a silicone holder that protects the back and sides of your iPhone. Skins are offer protection against scratches.

Snap on cases are hard plastic cases offered in a variety of colors and textures that also protect the back and sides of your iPhone. Some offer features like a rechargeable battery for extra power if you’re a heavy user.

Impact cases protect your iPhone against falls and other mishaps; they protect the entire iPhone – back, sides, and front but tend to be heavier and thicker. Impact cases are great if you are often outdoors or when there’s a high chance of your iPhone falling.

You wear a holster on your belt, and many people still prefer this style. Holsters are convenient and allow you to use your iPhone without needing a skin or case.

Wallet-style cases integrate an iPhone case, usually made out of leather, with your wallet; quite a few women prefer this type of case for its practicality.

A game grip makes you iPhone look and feel like a game console controller – perfect for addicted gamers, and is easier on your hands when you are in the midst of an epic battle or race.

Buying an iPhone in the US

Shopping for an iPhone in the US offers a several options:

    • Buy directly from a wireless provider like Verizon with a contract
    • Buy from a wireless provider such as Verizon without a contract
    • Buy from the secondary market

Buying from a wireless provider is probably the easiest way to get an iPhone and is the only assurance of the iPhone price. The iPhone price depends on whether you get a contract with the iPhone. With a contract, the iPhone price is about $49, but then you have to get a contract that could charge you about $49 per month for two years. The iPhone price without a contract is about $599 at AT&T and $649 at Verizon.

The advantage you get when buying your iPhone from a wireless carrier is that you can get service and support at their retail outlets. The wireless carrier typically honors the underlying warranty making it easier to get repairs or a replacement iPhone; ask at your wireless carrier’s retail store for available options.

Buying an iPhone on the secondary market – sites like craigslist.org, kijjiji.com, eBay.com, and through other private sales – offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to iPhone price, condition, and type (iPhone 3G, 3Gs, or 4). You can get an iPhone on the secondary market ranging between about $150 and $450; your location also makes a difference.

Shop around for the best iPhone price, considering your budget, and your wish for a newer or older model, plus support in case you need repairs.

    iPhone prices without a contract

It feels like everyone requires a contract these days – everyone including wireless carriers like AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint (Sprint does not offer the iPhone). There’s nothing quite like the feeling of being free of a contact, termination fees, and endless monthly charges. iPhone prices without a contract vary from carrier to carrier.

AT&T offers iPhone 4 without a contract priced at $599 – just walk in, pay your $599 and walk out with your iPhone (which is locked to AT&T). The great feature of buying an iPhone without a contract is that you can choose any plan you like and terminate at ant time. So if you don’t want data, you don’t have to get it with your plan.

Verizon offers their iPhone 4 without a contract for about $649 – about $50 more than AT&T. As with AT&T, you’re free to choose the plan you want and can terminate your plan at any time, yet your phone is locked to Verizon.

You can get a quad band world GSM iPhone for around $700. The advantage of getting this type of phone is that you can use it in a number of different countries – just switch out your SIM card. AT&T and Verizon phones operate in North America and won’t work in other countries due to differences in available radio frequencies.

iPhone Accessories – Cases, Cables, and Car Mounts

Your iPhone is so useful that you probably feel lost without it, even when you’re swimming in a pool – or maybe an ocean. You’ll find iPhone accessories that make your iPhone even more useful in ways that might surprise you.

An iPhone case is probably the most popular of all iPhone accessories. You can get various waterproof cases for your iPhone – some are designed to provide access to all of your iPhone’s functionality, while others make your iPhone float, even in very rough water – perfect for boaters or swimmers with a poor sense of weather and direction. If you enjoy exercising and want to stay in touch, or listen to that recording of last weeks meeting with boss for motivation as you work off a few pounds, try armband case. You slip your iPhone into the armband case, and then wear the armband around your upper arm, putting your iPhone within easy reach.

While watching a movie or slideshow on your iPhone’s screen is nice, it can get crowded around your iPhone’s display – there’s a cable for that! You can connect your iPhone to a television, projector, and for audiophiles, you can also connect your iPhone to your vintage stereo.

A car mount gives your iPhone a place in your car so that it does not get tossed around as you drive. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you’ll find a bicycle mount too! A bicycle mount is perfect when you want to convert your iPhone into a bike computer – you can check your current location, and get an idea of your speed, calories burned, and the RPM of your pedals and wheels, to name a few of the data points your iPhone can collect (with the right sensors).

The next post covers wireless accessories.

    Wireless iPhone accessories

This is the last in the series about iPhone accessories. Wireless iPhone accessories are not only convenient, but also necessities for iPhone accessories like a bluetooth headset.

Bluetooth headsets have come a long way – it used to be that you could just pickup and end a call. Today’s bluetooth headsets have some great features – like allowing you to listen to your music and other audio, making it a great way to enjoy your mobile media and take calls using your Bluetooth headset. Some Bluetooth headsets offer things like voice and motion-based control for the ultimate in safety and convenience.

Sometimes the iPhone’s keyboard is just too small or too unfamiliar for someone that does not own an iPhone themselves. A folding keyboard solves this problem – you’ll find a portable, folding keyboard that quickly pairs with your iPhone, giving you the feel of a laptop without the bulk. Other keyboards are available too – you can get full sized keyboards and keyboards that are integrated into a case – perhaps improving your accuracy and speed.

Another neat wireless sensor is a temperature sensor – you can find various types. Some temperature sensors even measure relative humidity too. There are temperature sensors for the weather, indoors or outdoors, chefs, and even specialized temperature sensors.

iPhone Accessories – Protection and Power

Your iPhone is really good as it is, yet you can make it better by using it in ways you probably have not considered. Do you go boating or get caught in the rain? Do you forget to charge your iPhone or use it a lot? Do you want to share your photos and videos on a larger screen? You’ll find iPhone accessories for these needs and more.

Your iPhone looks great and you can keep it that way by protecting it – your naked iPhone won’t look too good even if you are really careful. A screen protector is the most basic protection you can get. Screen protectors are usually made of a special plastic that does not affect your iPhone screen – the resists scratches and smudging. An iPhone case is one of the more iPhone accessories; cases can protect your iPhone from water, falls, or scratches from things like your keys.

No matter how just how much you use your iPhone you’re going to end up with a dead, or nearly dead battery. The simplest way to protect yourself against a dead battery is to carry the USB cable, yet there are often times when you don’t have access to a computer. Get a charging plug adapter and plug in your cable to charge anyplace you can find an outlet. You’ll find more portable power iPhone accessories too – a charging sleeve is a battery that’s integrated with case, so you’ll always have extra power at hand when you need it.

The next post covers more cases, and other iPhone accessories.

Buying an iPhone 3G, iPhone 3Gs, or iPhone 4

It’s no question that iPhone is the most popular and useful phone you can find – it sets the standard all other phones follow. Buying an iPhone can be a challenge – iPhone price changes have caused lots of variation in the market.

iPhone price variation, especially for iPhone 3G, is based on condition and the city you live in, or the city you buy your iPhone. For example, in New York you can get an iPhone 3G or 3Gs for about $125 in good condition and with all of its original packaging. If you live in Los Angeles the 3G or 3Gs is about $150 – again it should be in great condition and have all of its original packaging and cables.

iPhone price changes for iPhone 4 are greater and are influenced more by your location than by condition. This does not mean that the condition of an iPhone does not matter – it just matters less since there’s currently more demand for iPhone 4. You can get an iPhone 4 in good condition in Los Angeles for about $450 and, with a phone in similar condition for about $300 in New York.

The best approach for figuring out about the variation in iPhone price is to shop around on sites like craigslist.org and kijiji.com. You should see variation of about $50 for iPhones in similar condition and sold in the same city.

James said about this fantastic Stylus for impossible iPhone price
I am using this stylus with an iPhone 3g and it works pretty well for typing on the virtual keyboard. I can type considerably more accurately and therefore faster using the stylus than with a finger, however, you must press the stylus on the screen more firmly than you press with a finger.

It does not work well for “flicking”. It is possible to do, but you must press down quite firmly while flicking and the tip of the stylus drags a lot. I think it’s best to use a finger for flicking and the stylus just for typing.

For those of my generation who keep up with technology but just can’t get the hang of touch typing without hitting the right key the Apple IPhone 3G Stylus is the best thing for you. You are able to move faster and hit the right keys without mistakes. I love this tool I just wish there was a place on the Iphone to place it. If you have fat fingers or long nails this is the tool for you!
